In 1998 Thomas Fleurquin mobilised the “Distortion – A Celebration of Copenhagen Nightlife” party in a nightclub in Copenhagen. His idea was a flexible festival for the people, held in the streets for the love of Copenhagen, which later led Distortion to evolve in 2000 - into a 4 days festival in the Copenhagen streets.

This over-the-top street party and mobile extravaganza offers parties during the day into the very late hours. The first 2 days epicentres are the streets in-between some of Copenhagen’s most famous and notorious areas Nørrebro & Vesterbro ending up with the remaining 2 days at Copenhagen Harbour, Refshaleøen with a full-blown thunder of a party.

During the years Distortion have had several difficulties and complications since the very beginning not all of these arranged parties were fully legit and approved by the local municipality. Since 2007 when the growth of the parties started to show, the creators thought it necessary to start a cooperating with Copenhagen City Council to ensure the future of the festival. In 2011 it had grown so large it capped the 100.000+ guests! And in 2012 the company behind converted to a non-profit organisation so the motivation would continue to be for the love of party, music, Copenhagen and the streets.

Distortion is financed through a system of bracelets that insure each participant access to Refshaleøen, Distortions final venue and ensures the future Distortion for the next years but most important additionally financing the clean-up.

Ever since 1998 Distortion has captivated the hearts of the youth and youthful – angered the establishment and aristocracy of Copenhagen. Distortion will continue to indulge youth, the underground street scene, partygoers and the youthful alike.
